Podcasts for Product Designers and Data Scientists

One of the best ways I’ve found for learning a new topic is through complete immersion in the subject matter. Like a foreigner traveling abroad and absorbing a new language directly from locals, I’ve found learning at all times of the day, through both active and passive learning, works best for becoming a subject matter expert in just a short amount of time. In our modern world, the best form of passive learning has got to be through listening to podcasts.

Product Design Podcasts

My primary role is as a digital product designer and to keep up with the latest industry trends there are a few really great podcasts that help me elevate my game. Below is a list of my regular favorites.

THIS IS PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Definitely my favorite product design podcast. So far they have created over 200 episodes of pure gold. I feel like a better product designer after every episode.

Data Science / AI & ML Podcasts

I recently moved into a new position that required me to quickly become a subject matter expert in various forms of artificial intelligence. To get up to speed quickly I found several podcasts to be incredibly helpful in allowing me to converse with data scientists about complicated topics.

DATA SKEPTIC

I have become a big big fan of this show, so much so that I’ve bought swag from their store to proudly display on my laptop. The [MINI] episodes are great because host Kyle Polich (Data Scientist) explains complicated data science topics to his graphic designer wife Linh Da Tran. These are perfect for me to learn from.

Highlight Episode: word2vec

A really interesting look at how words can be represented as an array of values that describe the true essence of the word, rather than a simple binary representation of the characters.
